THE BUG Y2K IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT? - OF GIGANTIC COLLISION ELECTRICITY. THE BUG IS NOT A "TECHNICL" MISTAKE OF DISIGNERS. THEY KNEW EXACTALY WHAT THEY WERE DOING; THEY WANTED "TO SAVE SPACE", BUT DID NOT KNOW THAT THE (VISUAL) SPACE THEY ARE SVAING IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE (ACOUSITC) SPACE OF THE COMPUTER. THE GREAT FALL IS THEIRS, AND NOT THE COMPURER'S. AND NOW ALL THE DISIGNERS AND ALL THE CONSULTANTS CANNOT PUT THE SYSTEM TOGETHER AGAIN. BETWEEN THE LINEAR MODE OF OLD LITERACY AND ITS DERIVATIVES (IN THIS CASE - CALANDERS), AND THE SIMULTANEOUS MODE OF
THE DISIGNERS COULD HAVE TAKEN A TIP FROM THE HIPPIES OF THE 60'S WHO WANTED TO RIDICULE THE "SYSTEM" BY ASKING TO CHANGE THEIR NAMES INTO NAMES WHICH WERE AS LONG AS THE DIGITS OF THE PUNCHING CARDS OF THOSE DAYS, OR LONGER. THE OFFICIALS OF THOSE DAYS WERE IN REAL PANIC.
(P.S. - I AM NOT SURE THE COMPUTER IS ALL THAT NON-VISUAL , NOT LINEAR, ETC. I SUSPECT SOME OF ITS BASIC DESIGN ARE QUESTINABLE (IN THIS RESPECT). MY DOUBTS CONCERN THE MOST FUNDUMENTAL RATIONAL OF IT'S DESIGN, AND TO THE DEFINITION OF HUMAN RATIONALITY)
