Pilot Project |
Imago would be pleased to host images which others have taken of sites or objects of interest to the history of science and technology community. At the present time, however, we do not have the resources to do the image scanning or data entry ourselves. But you can still contribute if you own slides or prints of places you have visited and can place them on a web site of your own (temporarily). Here's how our pilot donation project works:
What you need to do
- Scan your images
- save them as JPEGs with a maximum dimension of 800 pixels in either direction (700 pixel maximum is better)
- the filename can be whatever you like (we will rename it accordingly later).
- place the images on your own web site and note their address.
- Collect all the relevant information about the image
- a simple name for the subject (i.e. what is the thing/place?)
- the proper title of the image, if it has one (e.g. a 18thC engraving might have a title of "Explosion on the B&O" whereas the simple name would be "Steam Engine")
- location, author/creator, and date of the subject of the image
- source and date of the image, and owner of the negative
- any keywords you feel would help locate the image but are not in any of the other fields.
- any relevant references for the image (articles, books, web sites, etc.)
- Fill out our on-line donation form.
What we'll do:
Your filled-out donation form will be sent to us and we will import your information into a record and copy the picture from your web site to our database. Once we have successfully imported your image, we will e-mail you notifying you that it is now part of the imago database. Once you receive that confirmation, you can remove the image from your web site if you want.
You retain copyright and viewers of the image will be referred to you for any inquiries about use, additional copies, copyright, or more information on the image.
